After Manchester City’s incredible title win in the 2018/19 season, all eyes now turn to the 2019/20 season to see if they can win their historic third straight league title. We also welcome Norwich City, Sheffield United and Aston Villa as all three were promoted from the Championship taking the place of Cardiff City, Fulham and Huddersfield.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the favourites to win the 2019/20 Premier League title again. To do this, however, they must make shrewd signings in the upcoming transfer window as they look to sign a midfielder to replace the ageing Fernandinho. Names that have been thrown around are Atletico Madrid’s Rodri, Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele and Real Madrid’s Marcos Llorente. All of these stars would add depth to Manchester City’s midfield as Guardiola looks to compete in the Champions League next season.
According to the UK’s betting companies, the favourites to lift the Premier League title in the 2019/20 campaign are Manchester City followed by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, 3rd is Tottenham Hotspur closely followed by fourth favourites Chelsea.
The world’s biggest betting company Bet 365 have Manchester City as favourites, Liverpool as second, Tottenham and Chelsea are third and fourth respectively. Fifth favourites are Arsenal and sixth favourites are Manchester United. Their favourites for relegation are Sheffield United, Norwich City, Burnley, Brighton and Aston Villa respectively.
Finishing on 97 points in the 2018/19 Premier League season, Liverpool will be desperate to go one further and win the Premier League in the next campaign. Jurgen Klopp will want to strengthen his side in the upcoming transfer market if they are to compete, however, names that have floated around are Sporting CP’s midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Lyon’s Dutch attacker Memphis Depay and Ajax’s talented young defender Matthijs De Ligt. All of these players will add much-needed depth to Jurgen Klopp’s side as he fights for the Premier League next season.
Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping they can make their mark in the 2019/20 Premier League season as they too will hope to push for the title. Manager Mauricio Pochettino will hope captain Hugo Lloris will be able to inspire the team alongside influential players such as Harry Kane and Jan Vertonghen if they are to win the Premier League title in the next campaign. Tottenham don’t seem to spend much when it comes to the transfer windows so expect another quiet summer from the North Londoners.
The favourites to be relegated are newly promoted sides Sheffield United and Norwich City. Burnley are also a favourite to finish in the bottom three, as are Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.
The race for the top four should also be interesting, whereas teams like Manchester City and Liverpool are almost nailed on, teams like Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United will have to fight for the Champions League places. Outsiders such as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United could also push for Champions League football next season according to the bookies.
All in all, we’re looking at a very exciting Premier League campaign next season as more teams become competitive, the title race will heat up as will the relegation battle. This is why it’s the best league in the world.
