The Success Of Real Madrid In La Liga

Real Madrid Trophies

Earlier this year, Real Madrid secured a record 35th La Liga title. Manager Carlo Ancelotti earned himself a record too, becoming the first-ever manager to win a title in each of Europe’s top five leagues. With such success this season in mind, in this article you can take a retrospective look back at the most defining moments of Real’s 35 winning titles. These Real Madrid success stories showcase just why Los Blancos are the pride of Espana!

An unbeaten run in 1931/32

The 1931/32 La Liga campaign was the first time Real Madrid got their hands on a trophy. Back then, the team simply known as ‘Madrid’ managed to go unbeaten for an entire eighteen-game season. Then-goalkeeper Ricardo Zamora, who would eventually go on to manage the Spanish national side in the 1950s, is largely credited with keeping enough clean sheets to help Madrid enjoy an entire season at the top of the league.

Bringing CR7 to the club

In 2009, Real Madrid paid a whopping £80 million to bring Christiano Ronaldo in! The winger would repay their faith by clocking up 450 goals in 438 games, thereby becoming the club’s best goalscorer of all time. As we all know, CR7 had previously made history at Man United, where he has returned to be a driving force even at the age of 37. Despite being a Premier League favourite, much of Real’s success during the 2010s can be attributed to him.

With outstanding performances in every game, both the club and also its many players are fan favourites to bet on. Many sports betting sites offer football betting on the La Liga and more, such as over at Leovegas.com/en-gb.

Vinicius Junior’s memorable equaliser against Levante

As we all know, picking up the points in all-important clashes is what helps to win league titles. In just the second game of last season, Real Madrid looked set to drop points away to Levante. At the time, speculation abounded as to whether Real had the strike force to go the distance for the season – and up stepped Vinicius Junior. It’s hard to believe, but the Brazilian started this game on the bench, before entering the field of play with just over half an hour to go. Real were 2-1 down, but somehow managed to equalise not once – but twice – to keep his team in the game. This marked a real turning point in the post-Ronaldo Real side.

When Real silenced Camp Nou

El Clásico is widely regarded as one of the most thrilling derbies in the world – and the October 2012 meeting between Real Madrid and Barcelona must surely go down in the history books and in football news as one of the most exciting ever! With Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both putting on serious performances, it was the former who grabbed the following day’s headlines with a celebration which silenced Barca’s fans. While the game ended as a 2-2 draw, it’s hard not to draw conclusions that Real Madrid had the upper hand – as far as bragging rights go.

Overcoming injury crises

Being without key players isn’t anything new to Real Madrid – but the team has often managed to overcome periods of injury crisis to achieve what at the time seems impossible. The 2021/22 La Liga-winning season is a perfect example, particularly during the winter.

In December 2021, Real Madrid visited Athletic Bilbao with just 14 first-team players eligible for the game. A Covid-19 breakout had put the likes of Bale, Modric, Marcelo and Alaba out of action, while Ceballos and Carvajal were missing due to injury. With Casemiro suspended, things were looking bleak for the much-weakened side, with no less than seven Castilla reserves being called up for the task. Remarkably, Real Madrid went on to win 2-1, with Karim Benzema netting both goals. Looking back on the season, it’s this indomitable team spirit that managed to carry Real Madrid to their second title in three years.
