An unbeaten run in 1931/32

When Real silenced Camp Nou
El Clásico is widely regarded as one of the most thrilling derbies in the world – and the October 2012 meeting between Real Madrid and Barcelona must surely go down in the history books and in football news as one of the most exciting ever! With Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both putting on serious performances, it was the former who grabbed the following day’s headlines with a celebration which silenced Barca’s fans. While the game ended as a 2-2 draw, it’s hard not to draw conclusions that Real Madrid had the upper hand – as far as bragging rights go.
Overcoming injury crises
Being without key players isn’t anything new to Real Madrid – but the team has often managed to overcome periods of injury crisis to achieve what at the time seems impossible. The 2021/22 La Liga-winning season is a perfect example, particularly during the winter.
In December 2021, Real Madrid visited Athletic Bilbao with just 14 first-team players eligible for the game. A Covid-19 breakout had put the likes of Bale, Modric, Marcelo and Alaba out of action, while Ceballos and Carvajal were missing due to injury. With Casemiro suspended, things were looking bleak for the much-weakened side, with no less than seven Castilla reserves being called up for the task. Remarkably, Real Madrid went on to win 2-1, with Karim Benzema netting both goals. Looking back on the season, it’s this indomitable team spirit that managed to carry Real Madrid to their second title in three years.
