Highlights from a thrilling, final round of fixtures in the league stage of the Champions League as teams battle to secure a place in the knockout rounds.

The top eight teams go straight through to the round of 16, sides placed ninth to 24 qualify for a two-legged knockout stage, with the remaining 12 clubs eliminated.

All five British clubs are in action, with two meeting at Villa Park as Celtic travel to Birmingham to take on Aston Villa for the first time in a competitive fixture. Six-time winners Liverpool are away at Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal travel to Spanish minnows Girona, and Manchester City welcome Belgian side Club Brugge to the Etihad.

What to Expect

  • A dedicated highlights show will air every Wednesday during Champions League match weeks at 22:40 BST on BBC One
  • Match-by-match highlights will be available at 22:00 BST on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, and app
  • Clips will also be shared across BBC’s social media channels for fans to access key moments wherever they are
  • The first show on August 14th will feature a special segment on the UEFA Super Cup match between Real Madrid and Atalanta

Expanded Champions League Format

  • The 2024/25 season will see the Champions League expand from 32 to 36 teams, with all participants organized in a single league table. The competition will feature 17 rounds in total: 8 group stage matches from September 17 to January 29
  • A new play-off round for teams finishing between 9th and 24th
  • The top 8 teams will automatically progress to the last 16, while teams placed 9th to 24th will enter the new playoff round
