Manchester City completed the inevitable on Tuesday night, winning their third Premier League title in four seasons after Leicester City defeated Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford. It’s been a dominant season from the blue half of Manchester, with it really being a matter of when, rather than if, they would secure this season’s title.
All eyes will quickly be onto next season, where we hope to see Premier League grounds packed to capacity once again, and the campaign looks perfectly poised. City will certainly be strong and are expected to add to their attacking options with Sergio Aguero departing in the summer.
Chelsea’s serious improvement under Thomas Tuchel has elevated them to title contenders next season and they will also likely be active in the transfer market. Manchester United are set to finish second to their noisy neighbours in the Premier League table this season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already outlined plans to improve his squad to close the gap at the top.
And then there’s Liverpool, who will be relieved to see the back of this nightmare, injury-laden season. With a fully-fit Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez they certainly can’t be dismissed. Other outsiders include Leicester City and Tottenham, with the latter also welcoming in a currently unknown new manager.

Manchester City – 4/6
With three title successes in four seasons to their name, Manchester City are firm favourites to retain their Premier League title in 2022. The size and quality of their squad was the biggest factor in this season’s total dominance post-Christmas and they will once again have the strongest squad coming into next term. City are already linked with moves for Erling Haaland and Harry Kane to replace the departing Sergio Aguero, both of which would reaffirm their status as title favourites. At the time of writing, City still have the opportunity to win a historic treble and if they are successful in seeing off Chelsea in the Champions League Final, expect this price to drop even further.
Chelsea – 5/1
We were somewhat surprised to see Chelsea priced as second-favourites to win next season’s Premier League ahead of Manchester United. Bookies and punters alike have clearly been impressed by Chelsea’s transformation under Thomas Tuchel, who has really galvanised his group of players since replacing Frank Lampard. They look set to finish in the top four and have the FA Cup and Champions League Finals to look forward to this month. There is plenty of quality in this Chelsea squad and expect them to add to it this summer.
Manchester United – 11/2
Manchester United have consistently been the second best team in the Premier League this season and have seen solid progression under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. There is a feeling amongst United supporters that the team may be just two or three signings away from putting up a serious title challenge and that could well be the case. There has been clear improvement at Old Trafford this season, while the attacking options available to Solskjaer will excite supporters. It’s fast approaching 10 years since United’s last league title but the team is arguably the strongest it’s looked since their previous success in 2013.
Liverpool – 11/2
Every Liverpool supporter will be delighted to see the back of this season with seemingly everything going wrong for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Long-term injuries to key players set the tone for what has been a tumultuous campaign that has seen them lose their invincibility at Anfield. It will be fascinating to see how they respond next season with the spine of their title-winning team back up to full fitness and prove whether this season was just a blip or if there are further issues at Liverpool. Their price of 11/2 will be tempting for those who believe they can rediscover their form of the 2019/20 campaign.
