Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie De Jong : Two superstars who could be on the move this summer

No one is ever happy to see the football season come to an end. Despite the months of June and July being filled with glorious sunshine, we are still left with a void that only elite football can fill. But one thing that does keep us going is the transfer rumours that fly around on social media.
Whether it’s epic sagas such as when Cesc Fabregas left Arsenal for Barcelona a decade ago, or those 48-hour whirlwinds like Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United last year. This summer will be no different.

Robert Lewandowski

The highest-profile player on this list is last year’s FIFA Men’s Player of the Year, Robert Lewandowski. And if someone had suggested that the Polish captain would be leaving Bayern Munich any time soon, we’d have probably laughed in their faces. The goalscoring phenomenon has bagged an incredible 344 goals in 375 games since joining on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund eight years ago, leaving him second on the club’s all-time top scorer list. He’s won the Bundesliga in each of his seasons in Bavaria, as well as three DFB Pokals and the 2020 Champions League.

But this season, rumours have persisted that the legendary striker could be on his way to join Xavi’s Barcelona revolution, and it would appear that those rumours were true judging by Lewandowski’s reaction after Bayern’s final game of the season against Wolfsburg. Will the serial winner be plying his trade at the Nou Camp next season?

Frenkie De Jong

A man who looks set to be departing Catalunya next season is Frenkie De Jong. The Dutchman hasn’t truly set the world alight as expected since his €86m move from Ajax three years ago. Brought in by former manager Ronald Koeman, it was expected that De Jong would have the team built around him in a bid to get Barcelona back to the pinnacle of world football.
New manager Xavi however, appears to prefer homegrown talents such as Gavi, Nico and Pedri, leaving the club to cut their losses, and De Jong to find a new home. The playmaking midfielder is still only 25 years old and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, where his former manager Erik Ten Hag has just begun his tenure.
